Cord of St. Andrew
Supple leather cord, 3 feet long
This is a supple leather cord, quite worn with age, and about 3 feet long.
Effect: After the wearer carries the cord on their person for at least 8 hours, the wearer of the cord receives a +1 enhancement bonus to all saving throws.
Once per day, the wearer/holder of the cord, if of Christian faith, can tie the cord around the bodily part of another person (as a move action) and heal 2d6 hit points of damage for the person it is tied onto. If the wearer is not of Christian faith, the cord only heals 1d6 hit points of damage. Once the cord is used for healing in this fashion, it cannot be used for healing in this fashion again, and the enhancement bonus to saving throws is negated.
Once the cord is again worn, it has attuned to a wearer (8 hours – at which time the enhancement bonus to saving throws for the wearer activates) and a new day has begun (defined as sunrise), the ability to heal reactivates.
If the cord’s healing has been used for the day, the wearer can tie the cord to another person and, with a proper prayer (Knowledge (Theology) check of DC15), provide the recipient with the +1 enhancement bonus to saving throws for 1 minute. If the DC is exceeded by 5 or more, the enhancement bonus is increased by another +1 for every 5 over the base DC.
So, if the cord is used in this fashion and the wielder’s Knowledge (Theology) result is 20, the recipient gains +2. If the result was 25, +3, etc. up to a maximum total of +5 enhancement bonus to the saving throw from making a Knowledge (Theology) check of 35 or more. A re-roll (try again) on the prayer DC can only be attempted if the initial roll was unsuccessful (less than DC15). One cannot simply keep praying until they get the maximum result.
Acolytes: Once per day, if the wearer/holder of the cord is an Acolyte of Christian faith, the Acolyte can activate (as a move action) healing upon themselves and heal 2d6 hit points of damage. If the wearer is not a religious class of Christian faith, the cord cannot be used in this fashion. Once the cord is used for healing in this fashion, it cannot be used in this way again until a new day has begun (defined as sunrise).
Any use of the cord by an Acolyte of appropriate faith adds 0.5 times the Acolyte’s level (rounded down) to the healing. So, an Acolyte of level 1 adds nothing to the healing but they add +1 at level 2, +2 at 4, +3 at 6, etc. up to +5 at level 10.
